Tidbits

Flash Sales: The USDA announced yesterday morning the sale of 136,000 mts of new crop soybeans to China.

Biofuel: Vietnam has completed its rollout across all urban areas of a mandatory E10 blending requirement in its most popular gasoline grade, which is expected to eventually generate annual ethanol demand of 240 million gallons. The policy ensures 100% of gasoline grades sold in Vietnam will contain ethanol, beginning in June 2026. The US Grains & BioProducts Council commented:

“This milestone is crucial for building long-term, scalable demand for US ethanol imports, as Vietnamese market demand will continue to outpace domestic supply in the coming years — an export opportunity that will only compound as Vietnam transitions to higher blend mandates.”

Sugar October futures shot higher early Tuesday to reach its highest level since May 2025. A report from Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry put Center-South sugar production at 3 million mts in the second half of July, 17% less from the same period last year. Cumulative sugar production since the marketing year began in April declined 12.4% to 16.9 million mts. Cane crushing was down 8.4% from a year ago to 46.08 million mts, while cumulative cane crushing increased 2.1% from last year. Ethanol production was up 2.8% to 2.39 billion liters. There are some ideas that the rally in sugar and the weakness in the Brazilian currency will support a greater emphasis on sugar. Sugarcane competes with corn in Brazil in ethanol production.
