Tidbits, May Futures & Spreads, Wheat & Flour 4/20/24
Futures & Spreads May beans low yesterday was lower than Thursday’s low and yesterday’s May beans settlement price was higher than the high made on Thursday. The Tech Guy pointed that out to us. Technicians call that a “key reversal” of a down trending market. Many of you have May basis contracts which need to be rolled or cashed out no later than the close of the CBOT on Monday, April 29th. Many merchandisers will require you to roll or cash out sooner than the 29th, so chec

Wheat Market Comments We have often quoted Kevin Duling, a market advisor and wheat producer from Maupin, Oregon, who has the best perspective of the US wheat markets and probably the best perspective for the world wheat market. He would welcome your questions and information about his service at Oregon (kdinvestors at gmail.com, 541 980 4554). Here is information he sent his clients after Thursday’s USDA reports (spelling retained): Annual sales timing history: I went t

Tidbits, Crude Oil, Wheat, Cocoa, Export Sales 4/5/24
Tidbits Yesterday morning, USDA announced the sale of 152,404 mts of old crop soybeans to Mexico. Datagro expects to see Brazil’s April soybean exports at 10.65 mil mts vs. 14.05 in April 2023 and corn exports 25,000 mts vs. 176,000 mts in April 2023. Does that indicate a short safrinha crop coming? Not much old crop corn left? Maybe both? Maybe none of the above. Brent Crude oil’s surge above $91 a barrel on escalating geopolitical tensions, WTI is above $86. The Departm

Tidbits, Russian Wheat, Fertilizer, ENSO, Export Inspections 3/26/24
Highlights Russian officials have halted the transport of loaded bushels sold by RIF, a top 2 exporter, due to quality issues. Market advisor, Kevin Duling of Maupin, Oregon is a wheat guy for sure. He provided us with this information last evening: It was revealed Grain Flower, the 2nd largest Russian grain exporter, could not meet quality specs on over 1 mil mts of wheat with ships in port expecting to be loaded. The Russian government would not grant phytosanitary permit

Tidbits, Beans February Crush, Wheat Production, Fertilizer Costs 3/16/24
Highlights NOPA posted a record February soybean crush by almost 20 mil bushels as new facilities come online and processors make up for lost ground due to January weather. The previous record for February was 166.28 mil bu. in 2020; February 2024 NOPA crush was 186.194 mil bu. (average estimate was 178). It is looking more and more like the USDA is 100 mil. bu. too low on their projected crush for this marketing year. Agrinvest Brokers have reported Paraguay soybeans began

Tidbits, Argentina, Soft Winter Wheat, Cocoa, Broilers & Ethanol 3/14/24
Highlights 247AG, after predicting Brazil’s weather the next 10 days, reports: "Can it get worse? Most definitely. Just getting started. Safrinha crop will be off by at least 20%, if not 30% or more." Corn futures in Brazil continue to rise, buoyed by the weather forecast for April. The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) will increase the daily limit of vessels through the canal from 24 to 27 on March 18th. Three Panamax ships would hold 6.5 mil. bushels of corn.

Weekly Summary & Recommendations 3/13/24
We attach the master market plan we recommend you to follow for all your grain crops. The decision-making tools are the same as in the past, but the importance of fundamental outlook has been down-graded to an equal value with the other three factors. In 2019 and 2023 into 2024, fundamental factors were totally ignored by the market and it was costly to you. All of us farmer-type people put way too much importance on the fundamentals. We see a bad weather forecast or dry
