There was some progress with China yesterday. China stated it wants to see a number of steps from Donald Trump’s administration before it will agree to trade talks, including showing more respect by reining in disparaging remarks by members of Trump's cabinet. China’s leadership wants the U.S. to appoint a point person for talks with China’s top trade negotiator.
California on Wednesday filed a lawsuit seeking to block U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs on foreign trading partners, accusing him of abusing his powers and inflicting financial harm on the state and nation.
Retail sales in the U.S. were up 1.4% in March, following a 0.2% gain in February. The market expected it up 1.2%. March retail sales were 4.6% larger than a year ago. It is the biggest surge since January 2023.
U.S. Industrial Production in March was 1.3% greater than a year ago, the market expected an increase of 1.2%.
