Flash Sales: Yesterday, the USDA reported sales of 202,000 mts of old crop soybeans to China.

U.S. Crops:

A farmer survey conducted by agricultural commodity brokerage and analysis firm Allendale forecast the U.S. 2026 corn crop at 15.833 billion bushels, with an average yield of 178.7 bushels per acre, which is below the USDA's outlook of 16.013 billion bushels and 180.7 yield.

Their 2026 soybean crop forecast is at 4.515 billion bushels, with an average yield of 52.6 bpa, slightly below USDA's 4.519-billion-bushel crop and of 52.7 yield.

The survey was conducted from August 17-28 and was based on producer-calculated yields in 25 states covering 88% of U.S. corn production and 83% of soybean production.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is launching a pilot project that relies more heavily on technology as part of an effort to improve its closely watched U.S. ‌crop acreage and yield estimates, Secretary Brooke Rollins said on Tuesday, in the face of mounting criticism over the reliability of government data. The project will use geospatial tools and crop models alongside farmer polls to estimate crop acreage and yields. The department also said it would explore the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The USDA did not provide a detailed timeline for the project.
