Conservation Reserve Program: On Wednesday, the USDA announced acceptance of 1.78 million acres into the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). About 25.8 million acres are currently enrolled in CRP, which is in its 40th year. FSA received offers on more than 2.6 million acres. The program’s total acreage is capped at 27 million acres for fiscal year 2025. About 955,795 acres are expiring on September 30 this year. Producers submitted re-enrollment offers for just over 624,000 acres and offers for enrollment of new land totaled 2 million acres. Kansas, South Dakota and Colorado hold the top three slots for accepted acres for all 2025 CRP enrollment opportunities.
Biofuel: Last Wednesday (17 Sept. 2025) Green Plains Inc. announced that it has entered into an agreement with an affiliate of Freepoint Commodities LLC to sell Clean Fuel Production Credits, also known as 45Z tax credits, generated in 2025 under the Inflation Reduction Act.
The initial credits will be generated from low-carbon intensity ethanol production at Green Plains’ three Nebraska facilities. A portion of these credits are being generated prior to the expected launch of carbon capture later this year, highlighting the competitive carbon intensity (CI) profile of the company’s current strategy and operations. Green Plains has also signed a term sheet with Freepoint to monetize tax credits from three additional facilities expected to qualify under 45Z during 2025. Read more at this link.
Oil & Gas: The Panama Canal Authority has opened bids for engineering firms to build a new $6 billion LP gas pipeline connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, aiming for a 2 million barrels per day capacity to accommodate growing U.S. propane and butane flows to Asia.
