Iran: President Trump sent Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner yesterday afternoon to Islamabad for talks with Iran mediated by Pakistan on Saturday. The Trump administration reported it has seen "some progress" from the Iranian side in the last couple of days. Vice President JD Vance is ready to travel to Pakistan to join talks if they prove successful.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi was expected in Islamabad last evening to discuss proposals for restarting peace talks with the U.S.
Secretary of War Hegseth said:
“Iran knows that they still have an open window to choose wisely at the negotiating table. All they have to do is abandon a nuclear weapon in meaningful and verifiable ways.”
Hegseth was joined at the press conference by General Daniel Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He said the U.S. Central Command continues to maintain a strict blockade on all ports in Iran. Thirty-four ships had been turned around as of Friday morning. The U.S. military would continue to interdict Iranian vessels in the Pacific and Indian oceans, Caine added.
