All September grain futures positions and September basis contracts must be priced or rolled today before the close. As expected, CBOT contracts were weak yesterday as they usually are a few days before the first notice day for deliveries on futures contracts, which is Friday. Today is a toss-up as far as traditional up or down price day, but first notice day is usually an up day.


The Hard Red Winter Wheat futures market made new contract lows each of the past two days. Hard Red Spring wheat collapsed going into yesterday’s close, making a new contract low by a substantial amount.


Taiwan purchased 65,000 mts of U.S. corn yesterday.


A Ukrainian farm union estimates the country’s wheat crop for 2025 at 21.8 million mts (USDA 22), down 900,000 mts from last year. As of August 22 farmers had harvested 98% of the sown area. Union also nudged its 2025 corn outlook up a million to 29 million mts (USDA 32).
