Tidbits

China made several announcements yesterday which show they are going to advance their effort to counter the U.S. trade actions that are forcing China to the negotiation table.

  1. China will convene an informal U.N. Security Council meeting on April 23 to accuse Washington of bullying and weaponizing tariffs, according to a document that outlines the key elements of a proposed project, initiative, or program at the United Nations. All 193 U.N. members are invited to attend tomorrow’s meeting.

  2. China announced yesterday it sanctioned several U.S. Congress members, other government officials, and heads of nongovernmental organizations for what the regime has called “egregious behavior on Hong Kong-related issues,” its foreign ministry said on April 20. The sanctions are in response to the U.S. sanctioning six Chinese and Hong Kong officials in March for their alleged involvement in transnational repression and acts threatening to further erode Hong Kong’s autonomy. China did not name which U.S. officials are being targeted.

  3. China warned they would retaliate against any and all countries that “cooperate” with the U.S. The Kobeissi Letter (a geo-political advisory group) summarized China’s intentions as follows:

“It's very clear what's happening here. China is seeking to isolate the U.S. through trade and investment. The US-China trade war just escalated to a new level.”
