Mexico has become the largest buyer of U.S. corn. Trump is increasing pressure on Cuba to cause the communist regime to collapse. Now that Venezuela is not shipping crude to Cuba, Mexico is the largest supplier of crude oil and refined products to Cuba. Mexican President Sheinbaum has said Mexico will continue crude oil shipments to Cuba, saying they are based on long term contracts and considered international aid. However, senior Mexican government sources said the policy is under internal review as anxiety grows within Sheinbaum's cabinet that the shipments could antagonize Trump.

 

Mexico is trying to negotiate a review of the USMCA North American trade agreement while trying to convince Trump it is doing enough to combat drug cartels and that U.S. military action against the groups in Mexican territory is neither welcome nor needed. To appease Trump, Mexico transferred nearly 100 drug kingpins to the U.S. in recent weeks to stand trial.

 

Three sources within Sheinbaum's government said there is a belief that if Mexico cuts off Cuba's oil, Cuba could be pushed into an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, triggering mass migration to Mexico. For this reason, some in the government are pushing to maintain some fuel deliveries to Cuba.
