Brazil: IMEA is a professional organization for Mato Grosso farmers, Brazil’s leading agricultural state. IMEA reported that cotton harvest for the state is 55.2% complete. Last year at this time, cotton harvest was 74.2% complete and the five years average is 78.6%. Farmers want to plant soybeans in those cotton fields in two weeks!
In Brazil, the second corn crop harvest is well underway, but the weather is predicted to turn wet and cold the first week of September.
Eduardo Vanin on Thursday:
“Tensions between the U.S. and Brazil may escalate. A Supreme Court Justice ruled that (bank) account freezes must receive prior approval from the court, a move seen as a potential barrier to enforcing U.S. sanctions. To make matters worse, one ‘brilliant mind’ in the Supreme Court floated the idea that Brazil’s government could freeze assets of U.S. companies operating in Brazil.”
Eduardo Vanin reported Friday the price of cash corn in the Western Mato Grosso hit a two month high Friday. He said he cannot explain the high price with a record crop being harvested. The reason is a late safrinha harvest and mostly domestic demand for ethanol and livestock feed. There is a day coming when Brazil will have such strong domestic demand, there will be little corn to export.
