Grain import: Denver based Ardent Mills has a flour mill in the Tampa Bay area of Florida which made news last week when it unloaded a shipload of wheat from Argentina. Ardent explained the cost of rail transportation from Kansas versus water transportation from Argentina made Kansas wheat too expensive.
Most summers, corn from Brazil to the port of Wilmington, North Carolina is less expensive than corn railed to the Carolinas from the Corn Belt. Thus, several shiploads of Brazil’s corn are imported through Wilmington Port probably 6 out of 10 years.
