The U.S. Senate passed its version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a ten-year fiscal package which would serve as the vehicle for fulfilling President Donald Trump’s campaign promises on tax cuts and border security. Vice-President Vance cast the tie-breaking vote after all Democrat and three Republican senators voted “No” on the measure: Sens. Rand Paul, Thom Tillis, and Susan Collins.
The bill will now go back to the House of Representatives, which will accept or reject the changes made by the Senate. The bill passed in the House by only one vote last month.
Some of Senator Joni Ernst’s proposed amendments to save wind and solar tax credits were not put up for a vote. There is no word on her pro-45Z amendments.
The USDA reported the crush numbers for May. The soybean crush was 204 million bushels, 6.2% more than a year ago. The canola crush was 107,840 tons, down 28% from a year ago. Cottonseed once refined was 29.1 million lbs, up 8%. The May corn crush was 501 million bushels, 2% less from a year ago. Corn for ethanol was 1% less at 449 million bushels.
