The day before yesterday’s trade talk between China and the U.S. were to begin, President Trump said reducing the tariff to 80% on Chinese goods "seems right," suggesting an alternative to the current 145% tariff. The meeting took place in Geneva as scheduled yesterday, but neither side made any comment about the discussion other than they will meet again today. Saturday's talks began in the morning and continued into the evening. It is generally considered a positive step forward that the meeting did happen. China's trade representative met briefly Saturday afternoon with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, which is headquartered in Geneva.
On Friday morning, the USDA reported the sale of:
95,100 mts of old crop corn and 192,900 mts of new crop corn to Mexico
120,000 mts of new crop soybeans to Pakistan
AgrInvest Commodities reported China bought substantial tonnage of soybeans from Argentina and, mostly, Brazil. The export basis at the ports was quite firm on Tuesday, but dissipated into Friday, which was the biggest day for export activity with the selling offers volume increasing, allowing sales made at lower prices.
