Weather: On Friday, the seven locations we track in the Western Corn Belt were predicted to receive rain 40 out of a possible 70 days in the ten day forecast. Today, those same locations were predicted to receive rain in 17 days in the ten day forecast. Check this morning’s rain day chart and you will know why corn and beans are trading the way they are.
The Mariana Islands are roughly halfway between the Philippines and Hawaii. Guam is the southernmost island of the 14 islands that also include Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
Category 5 Super Typhoon Bavi hit the Mariana Islands this morning with sustained winds of 180 mph (285 km/h) and gusts up to 196 mph (315 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 901 MBAR.
Typhoon Bavi is among the most powerful superstorms ever seen on this Earth. Meteorologist Ryan Maue said yesterday:
“Watching with some concern about the ‘mother of all heat domes’ across the Western U.S. in 10-12 days... triggered by Super Typhoon Bavi. This would be unprecedented ridge strength at 6045 meters (500 mb height). Nobody has seen this before!”
We report this information to you to demonstrate how extreme the current El Niño episode is. The peak strength of the El Niño is not expected until December or January.
