October CBOT agriculture options expire today.
The September quarterly grain stocks report will be released next Tuesday, September 30.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned senior U.S. military officers from around the world to a meeting in Quantico, Virginia on Tuesday. It is not known why Hegseth has ordered top military brass to meet on such short notice, but the news rallied crude oil futures from 65¢ lower to 36¢ higher before settling down 1¢ yesterday afternoon. The same news probably supported wheat yesterday given one of the possible reasons for the military pow-wow could be to discuss escalation of the war being fought in the “Breadbasket of the World.”
U.S. durable goods orders (things that last more than one year) for August were up 2.9% vs expectations of a 0.5% decline. Final Q2 GDP was also well above expectations, rising to 3.8% growth vs a 3.3% estimate.
