Flash sale: Yesterday morning, the USDA announced the sale of 128,000 mts of new crop corn to unknown.
Oils: Karen Braun reported that the U.S. cooking oil imports fell to a 16-month low in June, but first half 2025 used cooking oil imports were up 9% from a year ago. Starting January 2026, only biofuel feedstock from Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. will be eligible for the tax credits. North America soybean oil and canola oil will be the main feedstock for biofuels and perhaps ethanol.
Ethanol: The U.S. set new monthly export records for ethanol in May and June. Exports of 6.73 billion liters between September through June were up 23% from a year ago. Canada imported 35% of the U.S. exports.
Brazilian corn-derived biofuel grew from 520 million liters in 2017, to 8.8 billion in 2024, a 17 times increase in seven years. Brazilian corn ethanol production is expected to reach 10 billion liters by 2030 and can represent up to 40% of the national ethanol market. Brazil ranks second in ethanol production behind the United States which produced 16.1 billion gallons in 2024.
