Wells Fargo has suspended all travel to China after one of its employees was blocked from leaving China, causing broader anxiety about the risks of travel in the country. Wells Fargo's Chenyue Mao was subjected to an exit ban after she entered China in recent weeks.

 

The Wallstreet Journal said the exit ban demonstrates the risk of doing business in China. The incident could also chill corporate travel to the country and complicate relations between the world's two biggest economies. U.S. and China relations remain tense, shaped by deepening strategic, economic, and geopolitical rivalries.

 

A senior Trump official said the Chinese government has, for many years, imposed exit bans on U.S. citizens and other foreign nationals in China, often without a clear and transparent judicial process for resolution.
