Tidbits
Flash sale: Yesterday morning, the USDA announced the sale of 134,000 mts of old crop soybeans to China.
The EU Council issued this press release following this week’s summit:
The European Union will cover Ukraine's urgent financial needs in 2026–2027 by allocating 90 billion euros over the next two years through a loan secured by the EU budget.
Russia will not receive its assets back until it stops its aggression.
Ukraine will repay the loan only after Russia pays reparations.
The EU reserves the right to use frozen assets to repay this loan.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban noted that "this looks like a loan, but of course, the Ukrainians will never be able to repay it, so in essence, it's a loss of money." Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic will not participate in the loan provision in exchange for refusing to veto this decision.
Natural gas: The American energy company Energy Transfer has suspended the construction of its large-scale 16.45 million tons per year liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This is the first project in this field to be halted since President Trump accelerated the issuance of permits for their construction in January.
