The U.S. Trade Representative said there would be a press release, perhaps a press conference on Monday with the details about the trade negotiations between U.S. and Chinese officials the past two days. He made the announcement about 9 AM Central Time yesterday, which is when the markets began their upward trend into the close after trading sharply lower overnight. His announcement probably supported the market, but slow harvest, rain in the forecast for the next 10 days, a shortage of soybeans, escalation of the two wars, and end of the week profit-taking were also supportive.
A client in South Central Nebraska received 4.5 inches (114 mm) of rain in the 48 hours ending yesterday morning. More rain is expected today and three days next week.
China released yesterday morning an official press release regarding the meeting between Xi and Trump. According to the author, Beijing is proposing not just "cooperation," but a framework for how to compete and win together:
Expand the areas of cooperation and reduce the list of problems. "Cooperation is a two-way street."
Artificial Intelligence: Compete, but also cooperate (dialogue on risks, human oversight, "AI for good").
Taiwan: The USA must adhere to its position against "Taiwan independence" & act cautiously.
