Equipment: EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin vowed to dismantle standard federal mandates on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) systems. Zeldin was speaking Saturday at an agricultural roundtable with Oklahoma farmers and ranchers emphasizing that current protocols are threatening farm survival during peak operating windows. Zeldin stated following the meeting:

“When a tractor goes down in the middle of a harvest, it results in lost time and lost money, great frustration. When it’s time for harvest, and on particular crops, they need their equipment to work. They definitely don’t need a federal regulation to prevent them from being able to do their job.”

The White House said it will reduce tariffs from 25% to 15% on agricultural equipment, such as combines and harvesters, in order to reduce costs for US farmers and manufacturers. Foreign companies could qualify for a lower 10% duty rate if capital equipment contains at least 85% US steel or aluminum.

The concession takes effect June 8 and would run through the end of 2027.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a waiver on May 26 for motor carriers and drivers hauling straight or blended fertilizer products in many states. The waiver is in effect through 26 August.

The waiver provides relief from hours-of-service limitations in 49 CFR 395.3 and the requirement for drivers to use an ELD. It applies to fertilizer haulers in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
